The Waterfall is the seventh studio album by American rock band My Morning Jacket. My Morning Jacket rose to prominence in the 2000s with a string of acclaimed albums and praised live performances. Its sixth album, Circuital (2011), was equally well received. The band toured in support of it for two years before taking a break
Great My Morning Jacket on Circuital (2011) performed as both funk metal, but many fans were not all that fuss. They can four years later to The Waterfall. A plate that just as diverse, but still nice and close to home. The group gathers on the seventh plate again lived indie rock that mainly floats on falsettozang by Jim James. Of course also the reverb, which all productions of My Morning Jacket features, present. This gives the songs an almost religious undertones, with singer James as psychedelic priest. The songs are by the reverberant reverb sometimes also a little unclear.

The Waterfall is a My Morning Jacket crash course. It’s where indie folk meets alt country head-on. It’s Jim James hopscotching his way through past records with a far more lush, scenic destination in mind. One of those times is on the elastic Like a River, which is probably the album’s most breathtaking treasure. My Morning Jacket harken back to their alt country roots on The Waterfall and create a remarkable vision of the American countryside in the process, one as filled with solitude as it is with wonder. Essential Tracks: Like a River, In Its Infancy (The Waterfall), and Get the Point.

The Waterfall, My Morning Jacket's seventh album, is less a return to form than to spirit, reaffirming what an exciting rock band MMJ can be when they’re at their most generous, curious and restless. Since My Morning Jacket abandoned the grain silo on their 2005 masterwork, their albums have followed a similar format: reverb or no reverb, James’ saintly voice can redeem anything, so no song idea was too strange as long as it could still work at Bonnaroo. On that level, The Waterfall does little you haven’t already heard from My Morning Jacket; they just regain the quality control that abandoned them on Evil Urges and ditch the damage control that pervaded Circuital.
My Morning Jacket harken back to their alt country roots on The Waterfall and create a remarkable vision of the American countryside in the process, one as filled with solitude as it is with wonder. My Morning Jacket's eclecticism has long been one of their strong suits, but their sonic wanderlust seems to fail them a bit on their seventh studio album, The Waterfall.
