Matricaria is a genus of flowering plants in the Chamomile tribe within the sunflower family. Some of the species have the common name of "mayweed," but this name also refers to plants not in this genus. Most are very common in the temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and America, as well as in northern and southern Africa, and some are naturalised in Australia. Matricaria occidentalis is native to North America; other species have been introduced there.

Matricaria flowers do not only have a long tradition in Europe. Herbal preparations are used worldwide and it is belonging to the most popular medicinal plants of the world. Accordingly, matricaria flowers have been included into collections of monographs. Thüringer 9 Kräuter Tee contained: Mentha piperita, Rubus fruticosus, Matricaria recutita, Melissa officinalis, Coriandrum sativum, Santalum album, Citrus auranticum, Krameria triandra and Pimpinella anisum. no information on the amounts). MATRICARIA, named for a genus of plants that re-populate damaged woodlands, is the result of three years' work of casual homemade recordings by Espers cellist Helena Espvall and Fursaxa t Tara Burke. Featuring psych-folk drones and madrigals for voice, cello, organ and various percussion instruments, MATRICARIA is a playful, loosey-goosey record that nonetheless manages moments of delicate beauty. Highlights include "Moi Kissen," "Pirin Planina," and "Velvet Shoon.
