New Sacred Cow is the debut album by Kenna, released in June 10, 2003 by Columbia Records. The album was produced by Chad Hugo of The Neptunes and Kenna. Kenna created something of an underground buzz with the release of his first single "Hell Bent" in 2001. The album was leaked to the internet over a year before its final release, as it was delayed by record company politics. Freetime" was chosen as the single to lead off the release of the album.
New Sacred Cow Lyrics. Living in the blur of "id" Between the ego and the guilt Everyone is hiding something ugly I can't say that they're alone in it. Chorus: The black cloud chases like satellites overhead I don't I don't have the patience to watch you looking down on me I won't I don't need a reason to feel love from anyone here (w h e r e) Your only love is yourself Your only love is yourself. Crucify yourself for them Does it make you feel any better? Religion as the crutch All warped and delerious I swear I can't take it anymore.

But how do you explain this curiously oddball release? Produced by Chase Chad, one half of the hit-making rap production team the Neptunes, New Sacred Cow is a bizarre mixture of new wave, synth pop, and hip-hop. Songs like "Freetime" sound strangely like a Duran Duran for the 21st century, with its dreamy harmonized vocals and gurgling synths, while "Man Fading" sounds like a cut from George Michael's Faith as produced by Timbaland.

It's such an awesome feeling waiting for an album for so long and it actually lives up to the expectations you gave it. Kenna is so hard to define musically. It's easy to understand why Kenna is so diverse musically. Born in Ethiopia, his parents left the country to escape the persecution that was going on.

The results glisten with 80s poise and melancholy but a complete 21st-century overhaul in the drumming and rhythm department leaves New Sacred Cow sounding simultaneously old and new. Kenna's only peers in this field are Londoners Grand National, but Kenna gives them a run for their money with synthetic songs of style and substance. His vocals are virtually a litany of 80s pop (exuberant Thompson Twins here, a bit wistful David Sylvian there) but his words are those of a 2004 American worried about the world.
