Recitation is the fifth album from Envy. Recitation continues to expand upon the band's previous albums by using further elements of post-rock and spoken word while also maintaining screamed vocals, and is often seen as an album of further growth for Envy that improves upon the predecessors by perfecting their mix of screamo, hardcore punk and post-rock. They also continue to use Japanese lyrics. It is the only Envy release to feature no clean singing, only screaming and spoken word. Dairoku Seki - Drums.

Envy – Recitation (2010). Posted by NewAlbumReleases. net On September - 21 - 2010.

Rock Action) UK release date: 20 September 2010. by George Mitton published: 20 Sep 2010 in Albums. Envy are a fierce Japanese hardcore band fronted by a singer whose intense, rasping delivery is a prime example of the human voice pushed to its limits. So it’s a surprise that the first track on their new album, Recitation, is a subdued number featuring tender piano chords and reversed guitar sounds all carried on a wash of feedback. Clearly, Envy have a sentimental side. Perhaps it’s not so surprising

Recitation (2010) by Envy. Labels: Temporary Residence Limited. Genres: Post-Hardcore, Screamo. Songs: Guidance, Last Hours of Eternity, Rain Clouds Running in a Holy Night, Pieces of the Moon I Weaved, Light and Solitude, Dreams Coming to an En. .Members: Dairoku Seki, Tetsuya Fukagawa, Nobukata Kawai, Masahiro Tobita, Manabu Nakagawa.

It is this combination that makes Envy, and their latest album Recitation, such a joy to listen to. One of Envy’s greatest strengths are the vocals of Tetsuya Fukagawa, whose voice alternates between spoken word and a hardcore shout throughout the album. What separates Envy from other hardcore bands, besides the post-rock element, is that these vocals hold this desperate sound to it, almost as if Tetsuya is struggling to make the sound come out of his throat. It’s definitely one of the more memorable aspects of the album, and does a fantastic job of accentuating the climaxes. Vocals aside, the drummer is truly where the band generates most of its stride.

The thing that immediately stands out on the album is the patient composition of the songs, allowing them to slowly work themselves into a crescendo without ever rushing things, giving the songs a best things come to those who wait kind of feeling. For the impatient, all of this building can seem a bit tedious, but as Recitation unfolds, songs like Last Hours of Eternity and Light and Solitude show again and again that listeners are in capable hands as they slowly make their way to the seven-minute mark.

This pressing sounds absolutely terrible. Tons of static and distortion on the loud parts that aren't there in the digital version.
