Lynch requested that Badalamenti score Blue Velvet in its entirety-the composer’s big break, and the beginning of his and Lynch’s 30-plus-year collaborative brotherhood. Lynch had desperately wanted to use a song that had proved prohibitively expensive to license: 4AD supergroup This Mortal Coil’s cover of Tim Buckley’s Song to the Siren, sung by Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser. And perhaps it is the instinctive, serendipitous nature of the soundtrack’s ultimate form that makes it such an integral part of Blue Velvet’s enduring magnetism, as essential to the film’s mood and storyline as any of the characters.
Blue Velvet (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Soundtrack album by Angelo Badalamenti. The Blue Velvet soundtrack by Angelo Badalamenti is a dark combination of classic composition and vintage/modern pop songs, which mirrors the film's un-stated timeless setting envisioned by David Lynch and unsettling neo-noir atmosphere. Thus, the film has become noted for its diverse musical selections.

Blue Velvet/Blue Star" (2:46). 2. "Lumberton USA/Going Down To Lincoln" (1:16). Before Twin Peaks and all that followed, director David Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti had worked together just once: on the former's 1986 mystery noir movie Blue Velvet. Lynch asked Badalamenti to create an original score inspired by both the works of Shostakovich and the smoky, clandestine atmosphere found at blues and jazz clubs. These two musical threads are explored on side A and B respectively
